‘A mulher mais forte do mundo’ is a performance that combines contemporary circus and sculpture to explore the relationship between strength, memory and identity in the female body. Inspired by the women of the traditional circus, who defied norms by showing off their strength, the artist manipulates stones and transforms them into moving objects.
Through testimonies collected in each location, the show weaves a dialogue between the weight of the material and the stories it carries, questioning: What does it mean to be strong? Who, after all, is the strongest woman in the world?
Filipa Madeira (1996) was born in Évora, where she studied visual arts, and also in Lisbon. In 2021, she joined the contemporary circus school INAC – Instituto Nacional das Artes do Circo (V. N. Famalicão), specialising in antipodism – juggling with her feet.
She has been a performer and co-founder of the contemporary circus company Tremoças since 2022, developing research in her creations that combines object theatre, animated forms and contemporary circus.
In the circus field, she has performed at the 14th Portuguese Juggling Encounter in Serpins and at the NICE festival in Linz (Austria). She has carried out artistic residencies in various parts of Europe such as Lithuania, Spain and Austria, developing her expression in juggling and artistic creativity.
In her work, she has explored relationships between objects with different weights and similar shapes, as well as the manipulation of unconventional objects.
