Cat Smits [NETHERLANDS]
Hybrid and split focus acting with foam puppets and masks
MASTERCLASS
MAY 25TH, 10:00AM TO 06:PM
CINETEATRO CURVO SEMEDO
Audience: actors, dancers, puppeteers and well-trained amateurs.
Duration: 7 hours
Cat specialises in the relationship between puppet and puppeteer and creates a field in which she shifts between being the manipulator, being equal to the puppet and being manipulated.
In this physical masterclass she encourages the students to explore the limits of their bodies, and their puppeteering and acting skills.
Cat Smits studied Musicology, obtained a Bachelor of Arts at the Theatre School in Amsterdam and specialized in puppetry at l’Ecole Internationale de la Marionette in Charleville-Mezières.
Under Cat Smits Company she creates physical, visual and multiform theater-film productions. She makes foam sculptures that shine in her own work, and in productions of other companies.
Her foam rubber sculptures travel the world (Canada, Russia, UK, and Iceland). Puppetry, physical play, text, dance, shadow play, music and video are regular ingredients. With great layers and touching themes, CSC’s performances appeal to the imagination. CSC’s performances are touching, topical and thought-provoking.
