In Dis Order, Cat looks back on her youth. She was a pretty girl who did what she was told, even when it didn’t feel right. “I guess I’ll have to,” she thought. And she thought that far too often, in all kinds of situations. She calls herself a pleaser. The voice in her head, which she calls Anna, helps her to cope in the situations she gets herself into under the guise of I guess I’ll have to’. But with time that voice is getting angrier, meaner and more destructive.
Dis Order is a psychological drama about eating disorders inspired by the diaries of Cat Smits and the scientific research of Marlies Rekkers, who was Smits’ psychologist 15 years ago. The performance is partly autobiographical and made into fiction by Christine Otten. Dis Order combines puppetry, acting and dance with film images by Sunny Bergman. This combination ensures that the audience is taken into the inner struggle that every person knows to a greater or lesser extent in a moving way; the battle between light and darkness.
Cat Smits Company focusses on multiform, visual total-theatre with recurring creative elements like puppetry, physical play, text, dance, shadow play, music and video.
With their multi-layered, poignant themes, CSC’s performances always appeal to the imagination. Audiences are transported to a ‘fantastical’ world, where everything is possible. Powerful in their simplicity and magical in their imagination. CSC’s performances move people and are topical and thought-provoking.
