A house is built of bricks, a city of houses — inhabited by people who, together, dream. An oven is also built of bricks, and when many come together, a city of ovens is formed, inhabited by ceramics that give shape and life to dreams.
When did houses cease to be homes, and cities cease to reflect those who inhabit them?
As part of the TIJOLO artist residency, organised by Oficinas do Convento, kiln-houses are being created that reimagine the solid brick and the concepts of home, city and inhabitants. In this presentation, fire brings everything to life: inhabitants, houses, cities and dreams.
Selma Nunes was born in 1995 in Lisbon. She studied at the António Arroio School of Art and the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, as well as taking a number of short courses in drawing and painting. She devotes herself to painting and writing, experimenting with different materials, projecting what lies within her outwards, and revealing herself to others. She translates her dreams, her fears, her reflections, and the discovery of her soul, playing with colours, textures, shapes, and the connections between them. In these connections, she understands her own links,
the links between herself and the world,
between herself and people,
between herself and spaces,
between herself and herself,
She discovers herself.
