Erma comes from a place without a sky.
A place where almost everything has been forgotten.
Alone, surrounded by absences, objects and small creatures that accompany her, she tries to rebuild the world from fragments of memory: words that no longer remember their meaning, smells that linger on the skin, images of houses, food, voices and laughter.
Between luminous memories and echoes of a darker past, Erma moves through a territory where reality and imagination become blurred.
Created through the manipulation of puppets, objects and animated forms, ERMA traces a delicate journey through memory, absence and survival — a liminal space where each spectator is invited to remain like a leaf carried by the wind.
Catarina Falcão was born in Porto in 1976. She holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Porto School of Art. She has been exhibiting her work in drawing, painting and photography to the present day. Since 2002, she has been working in theatre as an assistant director and stage manager, focusing primarily on the technical aspects of constructing puppets, props, masks and set design. This is an area in which she continues to practise and conduct research into the poetics of the puppet-object and its relationship with the body. She attended the School of Puppetry – Centre for Puppetry Research and Promotion – Teatro de Mandrágora.
She has collaborated with Cão Danado e companhia; Teatro Plástico; Teatro de Ferro; Teatro das Marionetas do Porto; Teatro da Didascália; Teatro da Rainha; Teatro da Palmilha Dentada; Dançando com a Diferença; Trupe Fandanga; amongst others.
She co-organised the Marionetas Vadias meetings (2016–2019). Since 2011, she has been working with Teatro das Marionetas do Porto, forming part of the museum team, and since 2020 as the company’s puppet-maker to the present day.
